On a daily basis, individuals are heading to the fitness center, unrolling yoga mats, pounding the pavement, and signing on to new obstacle races.
That's all fine and dandy, but if you're in a relationship, there's no reason not to share in your fitness adventures with your mate.
You already know and are enjoying to positive benefits of physical activity, and maybe your significant other does as well; but there's a lot of evidence that supports the notion that couples that workout together develop stronger bonds than separately all the time.
Enjoy More Satisfaction with Your Relationship
Studies show that couples that participate in physical activities together experience more happiness and love with their partner (Aron, Norman, Aron, & Heyman, 2000). Any activity from: jointly competing for a physique show to training for a 5K or marathon to ballroom dancing or a hot date with Hatha Yoga, working out as a couple can boost each others hormones and the quality of your relationship.
Enhance the Quality of Your Workouts
Even if you feel proficient in your exercise routine, sometimes, just having your partner around can boost the quality of your workouts. On the other hand, if you are embarking on a new fitness challenge, bringing your partner along can be beneficial in that you help motivate each other and your relationship is strengthened by your collectively persevering the adversity that challenging exercises can bring.
Make Healthier Choices in the Kitchen
You're already working out together as a couple and making great strides to get fit and stay in shape, but it doesn't stop in the exercise room. Staying healthy continues based on the food choices you make. When you have a couple that works out together, there's a less likely chance that they'll make poor food choices throughout the day. Also, cooking healthy meals together continues to build upon that bond you're cultivating by exercising together. Lastly, it's always exciting to try new recipes and experience new flavor combination with your mate.
To wrap it up, living a healthy lifestyle can be all about you, but sharing and coordinating your healthy habits with your mate can strengthen your relationship and add more dimension and depth to your lives.
